Conservation Easement Act of 1986
Mississippi Code Annotated §89-19-1 et seq. provides for the state’s Conservation Easement Act, which authorizes the creation of permanent easements on real property for conservation and historic preservation purposes.

Conservation Easement Tax Credit
Mississippi Code §27-7-22.21 provides for a conservation easement tax credit. The credit is 50% of allowable transaction costs associated with donating an easement. The credit may not exceed $10,000 during the lifetime of the landowner, and it may be carried forward for 10 years. The credit is non-transferable.

Mississippi Code §27-7-22.22 provides for a tax credit for allowing land owned by the taxpayer to be used as a natural area preserve, a wildlife refuge or habitat area, a wildlife management area, or for the purpose of providing public outdoor recreational opportunities. The credit is $5.50 per acre of land in each taxable year.

Forest Legacy Program
The Forest Legacy Program is a US Forest Service grant program for protecting and conserving important forests that are threatened by conversion to non-forest uses, such as development. The Mississippi Forestry Commission is the lead agency responsible for administering the Forest Legacy Program in the state. The program achieves its goals through voluntary easements and fee simple purchases.

Governor Phil Bryant reestablished the Mississippi Military Communities Council to promote Mississippi’s military missions at the national level and advise Governor Bryant and legislative officials on actions that could potentially impact the missions and Mississippi communities that support military operations.
