Conservation Easement Statutes
Iowa Code §457A.1 et seq. provides for the state’s conservation easement statutes that authorizes the creation of permanent easements on real property for conservation and historic preservation purposes.

Forest Legacy Program
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources Bureau of Forestry administers the state’s Forest Legacy Program.  The program is intended to protect forest areas that are threatened by conversion to non-forest uses through fee simple title or conservation easement purchases.

Resource Enhancement and Protection Program
The Resource Enhancement and Protection Program, originally created in 1989, is funded by the Environment First Fund for a variety of uses, including:  open space acquisition and development, county conservation, city parks, state land management, and other related conservation initiatives.  Funding for the program is statutorily authorized (Iowa Code §455A.18) for a maximum of $20 million annually through 2021.
